THE EPARCHY OF JAGDALPUR THROUGH THE DECADES

1806

Bastar was included in the Diocese of Mylapore.

1833

Bastar became part of the Vicariate Apostolic of Madras.

1845

Bastar became part of newly erected Vicariate of Apostolic Visakhapatnam.

1966

Bastar was separated from the diocese of Visakhapatnam and added to the
Apostolic Prefecture of Raipur and entrusted to the Pilar Fathers (SFX).

1972

Bastar was made an Exarchate and was entrusted to the CMI congregation and named as the Exarchate of Jagdalpur (23 March).

1972

Msgr. Paulinus Jeerakath CMI took charge as Exarch (23 March).

1972

The CMC and the SABS sisters started their service in Jagdalpur mission.

Nirmal Vidyalaya, English medium school at Jagdalpur, was established.

Tom Sadan Bijapur was established.

Prakash Vidyalaya Kirandul was taken up by Catholic Diocese of Jagdalpur.

Exarchate of Jagdalpur was raised to the status of an eparchy and Mar Paulinus
Jeerakath CMI was appointed its first Bishop by Pope Paul VI (26 February).

Girideep at Keskal was commenced.

Asha Nivas at Adawal was commenced.

Missionaries of Charity Brothers (MC) started Karuna Sadan at Kondagaon.

Vimal Vidyashram School Mariguda was attacked and demolished by anti-social
elements (February).

Yesu Deva Ashram at Bhiragaon was started.

First batch of seminarians for the Eparchy of Jagdalpur started their training at
Karithgaon together with CMI aspirants.

Blessing of St. Joseph's Cathedral Church at Jagdalpur.

Bishop Mar Paulinus Jeerakath was called to eternal rest (06th of August).

Very Rev. Fr. Kurian Macheril CMI was elected as the Diocesan Administrator.

Mar Simon Stock Palathra CMI was appointed the second bishop of Jagdalpur.

Gurukul at Kondagaon was blessed (Diocesan Minor Seminary).

MMB brothers started their service at Pakkanjore.

St Alphonsa Ashram at Junawar was started.

Silver Jubilee of the eparchy of Jagdalpur was celebrated.

Amar Jyoti Ashram at Chottebettia has raised to the status of a Parish.

2004

A mob attacked and burned the Church in Pushnar (Bhairamgarh).

2005

Mission Station at Boregaon was established.

2006

St Alphonsa Church at Mardum was started.

2006

Jagdalpur Mission Home at Ramapuram (Kerala) was inaugurated.

2007

St Thomas Church Adawal, St Vianney Church Parpa and St Antony's Church Sukma
were raised to the status of Parish.

2008

Fervent Daughters of Sacred Heart of Jesus Sisters started their service at Kapsi.

2008

Good Shepherd Parish, Aghanpur was bifurcated from St. Joseph's Cathedral.

2010

Good Shepherd Pastoral Centre, Aghanpur was blessed.

2010

Pakhanjore Mission Station has raised to the status of a Parish (Fatima Mata Church).

2012

New school at Chindgarh was opened.

2013

Mar Joseph Kollamparampil CMI was appointed the third bishop of Jagdalpur.

Perpetual Adoration was started at St Joseph's Cathedral Church, Jagdalpur.

Vidya Jyoti School at Dewda was inaugurated.

Daughters of Sacred Heart of Jesus Sisters started their service at Charama.

New Church was Consecrated at Parpa.

Sisters of John the Baptist started their service at Palnar.

Mission Station at Antagarh was opened.

New schools were opened at Antagarh and Kodagaon.

New schools were opened at Potnar and Parpa.

Very Rev. Fr. Kurian Macharil CMI, former Administrator of Diocese of Jagdalpur, was passed away (September 21).

New Churches were consecrated at Chottebettiya

New Church was Consecrated at Narayanpur.

New Presbytery at Bhairamgarh was blessed.

Bishop House was renovated.

New Churches were consecrated at Kutni.

Golden Jubilee of the Diocese of Jagdalpur (declaring it as an exarchate) was celebrated.

New Churches were consecrated at Bhairamgarh and Bandam.

A school in Bhairamgarh with the name Nirmal Vidyalaya was commenced.

Preshitharam Sisters started their service in the Diocese.

Narayanpur Church was attacked by a mob protesting alleged religious conversions.

New Churches were consecrated at Bande and Pakhanjore.

A priest home (Shallom) was blessed at Aghanpur.

New Churches were consecrated at Aghanpur and Gangaloor.

DSJ sisters and St John of God Sisters (SCJG) started their service in the Diocese.

Reorganized and expanded the territory of the Eparchy of Jagdalpur to the entire
state of Chhattisgarh.

2025

The Eparchy of Jagdalpur was placed as a suffragan Eparchy under the newly
erected Metropolitan Archeparchy of Ujjain.

St Mary's Church Mariguda has raised to the status of a Parish (08-12-25).

2026

St Sebastian's Church Bandam has raised to the status of a Parish (08-05-26).
