On 8 February 1831 was the beginning of the DSHJ Congregation in North Italy at Bergamo Alta (Gromo). It was in response to the poor and pathetic condition of the society, especially youth and the women. Different colonization and wars led the society to have many orphans, diseases, youngsters in street without any future aim, in short all the levels of the humanism was in danger in that period. Msgr. Joseph Benaglio had the inspiration to respond to the needs of that society. He was the spiritual director and confessor of a noble family called Eustochio Verzery. Theresa Verzery was the eldest child of this family. Msgr. Joseph saw in her the adaptable human and spiritual spirit to respond it. They founded the Institute of the DSHJ. The charism of DSHJ is to share the merciful love of the Heart of Jesus through various ministries by providing the Providence of God. On 10 June 2001 St. John Paul II canonized Theresa Verzeri as a saint. In 1980 DSHJ arrived in India. In 2013 we opened our first house in the eparchy of Jagdalpur.
