The Missionary Sisters of Mary Immaculate is a women religious congregation founded by Late Msgr.C. J.Varkey as per the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit on Sept 8th, 1962 the Nativity of the BlessedVirgin Mary. The beginning of the congregation was as a 'pious union' titled 'Sisters of Mary Immaculate'.21 candidates were joined in the first batch of the congregation. Later the name of the congregation was changed into Missionary Sisters of Mary Immaculate. On 18th July 1973Bishop Mar SebastianValloppilly declared officially this community as a congregation of diocesan right. On 15th Oct 1988 Pope John Paul II raised this congregation to the status of Pontifical Right (Prot. No.178/61 dated 15.10.1988).The congregation is engaged in different apostolates in twenty-five dioceses in India and four dioceses in Germany, Italy and America, aimed at the dissemination of the Kingdom of God. Pavanatma province was formed on 4 June 2006.We started our missionary works in the Eparchy of Jagdalpur at Karitgaon and Chirgaon. Later convents were opened in Pahurbel,Aghanpur and Kolchur. From the very inception of the province the ministry of catechesis of the villagers remains one of the top concern and priority. It has always been the earnest endeavour of the province to discover new ways and methods to seek fresh opportunities in order to spread Christian faith.
